Junior Doctor Conference Townsville 2023

We're taking the AMA Queensland Junior Doctor Conference to North Queensland in June.

Your experience will start with a morning session at James Cook University in Townsville. From there, you will mingle with other junior doctors and medical students as we move to the beautiful Magnetic Island for the afternoon sessions and speed dating the specialties workshop. 

Sunday is back on the mainland for a hands-on procedural skills interactive workshop by academic and clinical specialists at Townsville University Hospital. 

JDC encourages junior doctors and medical students to engage and be inspired. 

Keynote address: Dr Mikaela Seymour, 2018 AMA Doctor in Training of the Year and Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia honouree.

We understand junior doctors and medical students have minimal income in the earlier years of their career. ⁠Townsville Hospital and Health Service is home to the region’s tertiary referral facility, Townsville University Hospital. It's sponsoring 50 junior doctors and medical students to attend the event, a package worth. Valued at $450, each package includes your conference and associated catering, transport to and from Magnetic Island, Saturday night social function and hands-on procedural skills interactive workshop on Sunday.  

THHS is also offering a limited number of South East Queensland delegates $100 towards your flights to Townsville. This has never been offered before.

Roster refund

If you register for this event but are then rostered to work the weekend 3 and 4 June, we’ll provide a full refund. Please let us know as soon as you get your roster, though. We require seven days' notice of cancellations to meet our catering and venue obligations or to make the ticket available to your colleagues on a waitlist.

Sponsored delegate packages

  • Delegates who register for and receive a sponsored conference package must agree to the following terms and conditions: 
  • Sponsored delegates are required to attend all social functions in addition to the conference - no-shows will incur a $150 cancellation fee. 
  • Delegates will not be charged a cancellation fee if they provide notification of cancellation 8 or more days prior to the conference opening.  
  • Delegates who provide 7 or fewer days’ notice of cancellation will incur a $150 cancellation fee, (delegates with Covid-19 will not be charged). 
  • Delegates will not be charged a $150 cancellation fee if they arrange a replacement medical student or junior doctor to attend the conference. 
  • If you register but later find out you are rostered at your workplace on these dates, contact registrations@amaq.com.au to cancel your registration at no cost. Try to advise us one week or more before the conference. 
  • Accommodation is not included in this package. We recommend you browse suggestions on this page or contact Orbit World Travel: 07 5556 7200 or amaq@orbitworldtravel.com.au.
