Dr Nick Yim re-elected AMA Queensland President
Hervey Bay GP Dr Nick Yim has been re-elected by fellow doctors to serve a second term as AMA Queensland President.

He was officially reappointed to the role at the AMA Queensland AGM on Friday 30 May.
“Working together with the Board and Council on behalf of members, we’ve accomplished a great deal in 12 months, but this is just the beginning,” said Dr Yim.
“I will continue to promote our evidence-based demands for the health system, but my focus is now on ensuring both levels of government deliver on their promises.
“We need accurate and relevant real-time hospital data, increased access to elective surgery services in the regions and more beds in hospitals statewide – but most importantly, we need enough staff to run these services.
“Workforce has long been our top priority, but with the needs of our growing and ageing population increasing faster than ever, now is the time to act.
“As I enter my second term, I am looking forward to sharing the recommendations of AMA Queensland’s own Workforce Working Group that is set to conclude later this month.
“We need practical solutions to get the right people to the places they’re needed most.
“The GP incentive program is a great start, but we need to see more commitments to Queensland’s health workforce coming out of the state budget on 24 June.
“We will be carefully scrutinising the promises and policies following the budget release.
“Above all, we will continue to work with the government to ensure the best outcomes for patients and our profession.”
Dr Yim said he is also looking forward to continuing working alongside breast surgeon Vice President Dr Emilia Dauway, who has been re-elected unopposed for a second term.
“Dr Dauway has shown consistent dedication to the profession and her patients during her years of leadership with AMA Queensland, but this particularly shone through in her first year as Vice President," he said.
“Together we have fought hard for our members and achieved notable advocacy wins.
"We have also ensured that important public health messages broke through the noise of misinformation and reached communities with clarity, accuracy, and urgency.
“I value our teamwork and am eager to build on what we have already been able to achieve together for doctors, patients and the community.”
