Dr Dilip Dhupelia re-elected as Foundation Chair
Dr Dilip Dhupelia has been re-elected to serve his fourth term as Chair of the AMA Queensland Foundation.
Since joining AMA Queensland as a member 41 years ago, Dr Dhupelia has been actively involved in supporting doctors, patients and communities, going on to serve as AMA Queensland President in 2018-20 before joining the Foundation leadership team.
“I consider it an honour to be re-elected Chair of the AMA Queensland Foundation for a further term,” Dr Dhupelia said.
“The recent AGM returned an unchanged Board which augurs well for the activities of the Foundation for 2024-2025.
“I feel privileged to be leading a skilled-based Board who are talented in different ways yet give so much of their time in an honorary capacity for the causes that the Foundation supports each year.”
In recent years, Dr Dhupelia has led fundraising efforts to support many charity partners, flood affected patients and doctors, medical students, and GP Registrars and Trainees as part of his role as Chair.
The Foundation raised $173,780 to support its 2023 charity partner Beddown, a charity that supports Queenslanders experiencing homelessness.
Most recently, the Foundation awarded three medical students experiencing financial hardship with $10,000 scholarships to assist them to complete their studies and achieve their ambition to become doctors and serve the Queensland community.
The Foundation is also currently considering applications for the second round of the GPTQ Training and Research Bursary for GP Fellows and GP Registrars.
“Over the past two years, the breadth of activities that the Foundation has undertaken with the funds that we have raised, thanks to our generous doctors and supporters, has been nothing less than inspirational,” he said.
“The Board is committed to its ongoing and increasing efforts in securing more scholarships for medical students in need so that they may complete their studies; but also assisting young people with disabilities, people experiencing homelessness, and this year, concentrating on family violence support services.
“We also watch with admiration how the funds we have provided to various organisations are utilised for those in need.”
Looking to the year ahead, Dr Dhupelia and the Foundation Board seek to continue supporting doctors and communities in need with the support of AMA Queensland.
“The Foundation Board is grateful for the support we receive from the hard-working staff at AMA Queensland.
“The admirable work that the Foundation does would not be possible without the regular commitment that our medical colleagues make each year by continuing to be regular donors.
“It goes without saying how pleasing it is to see many newer donors each year recognising the Foundations work and contributing in a way that makes our work a bit easier. For this, I thank you all.”
End of financial year tax appeal

The Foundation is hoping to offer three or more Medical Student Scholarships in 2025 with your support. We are seeking donations through this year’s End of Financial Year tax appeal – all donations are tax deductible.
