AMA Queensland Committee of Doctors in Training 2023 - Applications now open

election

Applications are now open to join the 2023 AMA Queensland Committee of Doctors in Training (CDT). I’ve had to privilege of serving on the CDT executive, and as Chair for the past year, but as my training is progressing, it’s time for me to hand the reigns of this amazing committee over. Being part of the CDT has been an incredible experience, and one that I’m hoping many of our junior doctor members will be a part of in the future.

The past year has been a big one for CDT. As Australia started trying to return to a post-COVID “new normal”, our hospitals were flooded with patients and junior doctors were managing massive workloads. This didn’t deter the advocacy work that CDT undertakes though, as we continued to work to improve junior doctor conditions and training throughout Queensland. Some of the big wins from the past year include:

Being part of the CDT will help you grow your leadership skill set and give you a new appreciation for the medical landscape within Australia. It presents wonderful networking opportunities with colleagues (senior and junior). On top of that, you’ll be part of the ongoing fight to improve the state of medicine and the lives our doctors and patients everywhere.

I’d encourage all passionate people to apply to be part of the 2023 CDT. There are executive positions (including the Chair, and Deputy Chairs), and hospital representative positions up for grabs, and 2023 promises to be another productive year with our new Secretariat (Wayne Bruton) aiming to work hard with our hospital representatives and executive to support junior doctors throughout Queensland.

The aim of the Special Interest Group (SIG) format is to improve AMA Queensland Doctor in Training member engagement. Additionally, by having more members involved, the output of CDT as a committee can be increased. This will help contribute a diversity of voices within AMA Queensland when it comes to setting priorities and policy directions.

Each SIG will aim to contribute at least one (1) major project or policy statement per year, as well as assist in providing content for AMA Queensland publications, and may be asked to provide speaker suggestions for AMA Queensland events. The SIG Chairs and Deputy Chairs will be empowered to liaise directly with the relevant AMA Queensland staff for assistance (with guidance from the CDT leadership), which will improve overall efficiency.
