AMA Supplementary Submission to the Senate Community Affairs References Committee on the Effectiveness of the Aged Care Quality Assessment and accreditation framework

Considering the recent and ongoing work of the multiple aged care reviews, inquiries and the Royal Commission, the Senate Community Affairs References Committee will focus on only one term of reference for this inquiry going forward:

  • the effectiveness of the Aged Care Quality Assessment and accreditation framework for protecting residents from abuse and poor practices, and ensuring proper clinical and medical care standards are maintained and practised;

The AMA provided a supplementary submission highlighting that its original submission adequately covers this new focus. The submission also argues that while there are several factors that contribute to poor quality care in residential aged care facilities (RACFs), many quality issues can be rectified by improving the capacity and capability of the aged care workforce to meet the needs of older people.

The AMA’s original submission is available here.
