Action plan to increase access to care

AMA SA has joined SA Health in identifying ‘agreed actions’ aimed at enhancing the role of community care in reducing hospital presentations, following the AMA SA Access to Care Round Table.

The Access to Care Round Table in May 2025 brought together health practitioners, administrators and others from across South Australia’s health system to discuss how changes in community care could help reduce presentations to the state’s hospitals.

The group of more than 30 clinicians and other health-sector leaders identified issues that affect the standard of care available to South Australian patients and examined underlying problems that compromise patient care.

Since the Round Table, AMA SA has joined SA Health in considering the issues and highlighting potential solutions.

A one-page ‘Agreed actions’ plan from SA Health summarises many of the outcomes for implementation in the coming months.

AMA SA President A/Prof Peter Subramaniam has thanked the many organisations whose contributions are represented in the agreed outcomes, and whose assistance will be important in their implementation and success.
