AMA SA President Associate Professor Peter Subramaniam and Immediate Past President Dr John Williams welcomed colleagues and friends to their joint end-of-year Presidents’ Breakfast at Plant 3 Bowden on 21 November.
The event brought together members of AMA SA’s Board, Council and committees, along with representatives from across the healthcare sector, including Health and Wellbeing Minister Chris Picton, SA Best representative Connie Bonaros MLC and AMA President Dr Danielle McMullen.
Dr Williams expressed his gratitude to the Minister and his counterparts in opposition for their willingness to include AMA SA in the rooms and conversations where policies are shaped and decisions are made. He also acknowledged the many healthcare leaders who participated in AMA SA’s Access to Care Round Table in May, contributing to a day-long brainstorming session on how to improve care in homes and communities and keep people out of hospital.
Associate Professor Subramaniam echoed these words of thanks and welcomed ongoing discussions in the lead-up to the 2026 state election.
‘Despite the pressures of political contests, successive South Australian governments have always been prepared to engage with the medical community,’ A/Prof Subramaniam said.
‘We will not always agree, but our exchanges will always remain respectful, considered and grounded in shared purpose.
‘The AMA has never doubted the motives or intentions of those who have to take the many and often difficult decisions that constitute health policy for our state. Our role is to ensure that those intentions and policies are translated into the best outcomes that make a real difference for our patients.’
