Modernise Medicare Posters
Medicare was launched in 1984 and was designed to support all Australians.
A lot has changed since then. Rising rates of complex and chronic health problems means patients need to spend longer with their doctor.

But we know that GPs are not adequately supported to spend the time you need with your patients.
Recent bulk billing incentives will undoubtedly help many vulnerable people and some practices, but we know that not every practice can afford to absorb the gap whilst being able to keep their doors open.
We need comprehensive reform that ensures all Australians have access to affordable, high-quality, sustainable general practice care.

That’s why the AMA is calling for a new GP Medicare structure. It’s a structure developed over 18 months with input from GPs across the country, designed to Modernise Medicare.
The AMA’s Modernise Medicare plan supports longer consultations, better funds delivery of comprehensive healthcare and removes disincentives to delivering the kind of care we know GPs desperately want to provide, while also reducing the number of people delaying GP visits due to costs.
The AMA’s Modernise Medicare plan is comprehensive. That’s why it also calls for funding to create a true medical home — where our GPs work with nurses, mental health professionals, physiotherapists, diabetes educators and other healthcare workers as part of a true team.
Supporting a connected healthcare system under one roof would go a long way to improving healthcare and helping patients.
But we need your help.
