AMA Queensland Annual Conference 2025

Vancouver, Canada

  • Are you thinking about travelling overseas this year?
  • Would you like to earn CPD points while seeing some amazing sights?
  • Interested in learning key issues facing the profession while immersed in a unique tourism destination?

Our CPD-accredited AMA Queensland International Annual Conference has a long and proud history of bringing doctors together to discuss key issues facing the profession while immersed in unique tourism destinations. We are thrilled to hold our 2025 international event in Vancouver, Canada, with support from our corporate partner Orbit World Travel.

Vancouver is a bustling seaport on the west coast of Canada, located in the magnificent state of British Columbia. Known for its incredible scenery, diverse culture, abundance of nature and extensive activities, Vancouver is loved by tourists and locals alike.

The climate in September is mild, offering a minimum of around 12°C and a maximum of around 19°C, making it a perfect time to visit this beautiful city.

Vancouver is on the doorstep of several National Parks, including the famed Stanley Park, Vancouver’s first, largest and most beloved urban park. Stanley Park is a 1,000-acre magnificent green oasis in the midst of the urban landscape offering cultural landmarks, beautiful beaches, wildlife, places to dine and many activities for all ages, as well as a popular area for sporting events, weddings and film production. Its natural west coast atmosphere offering a backdrop of majestic cedar, hemlock and fir trees embraces visitors and transports them to an environment rich in tranquility.

Vancouver is a gateway to the famous Canadian Rockies. Formed over 70 million years ago after the collision of tectonic plates, this natural occurrence helped create one of the most picturesque and impressive mountain ranges in the world. Jagged peaks and glacier-fed lakes, home to grizzly bears, elks, deer, caribou and many more. This World Heritage listed site is a wonderland all year round!

Rocky Mountains Explorer

Post conference - 27 September- 5 October

AMA Queensland dedicated group
Nine-day coach tour includes staying at the famous Fairmont resorts in the Rockies!

SAT 27 September - DAY 1: Vancouver, Whistler
This morning we will meet our guide at the hotel for our Canadian Rockies  tour and travel via the Sea To Sky Highway, Shannon Falls and the lumber town of Squamish to Whistler Village resort. The resort is an internationally acclaimed ski station that is equally popular in the summer months. Overnight in Whistler is a lively, year-round destination resort. The Village Square, located at the base of Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains, is a carefully constructed pedestrian village.

SUN 28 September - DAY 2: Whistler - Sun Peaks
This morning we have the opportunity to visit Whistler’s Farmer’s Market before setting off on a breathtaking route through the wilderness mapped by the gold-seekers. Passing the supply centre for the Cariboo Gold Rush of 1860 of Lillooet and the cowboy country ranch land of Kamloops and Cache Creek, our route clings to the steep canyon walls of the Fraser River.
We are welcomed by breathtaking unspoiled views at Sun Peaks Resort, an area comprising five mountains and accessible through a picturesque valley.

MON 29 September - DAY 3: Sun Peaks - Jasper
Today we travel north to Clearwater and experience the stunning vistas of high  mountains, deep canyons, volcanic cones, brooding old-growth forests, thundering waterfalls and raging white-water rivers of Wells Gray Park. After the visit of the park, we depart for Mount Robson Park with a photo stop on the snowy peaks of the highest mountain in the Canadian Rockies. The Yellowhead Parkway leads us to Jasper in the evening.
The town of Jasper is set in Jasper National Park, among spectacular mountain peaks, centuries-old glacial ice, flower-carpeted meadows and mirror-like lakes.

TUE 30 September DAY 4: Jasper
Depart on a full-day sightseeing tour of Jasper National Park, a sweeping expanse of scenic beauty. Sightseeing will include a walk at Maligne Canyon, and visits to Patricia Lake and Pyramid Lake. In the afternoon we will reach Maligne Lake, the largest lake in the Canadian Rockies and one of the most photographed scenes in Canada. We return to Jasper in the late afternoon.

WED 1 October - DAY 5: Jasper - Lake Louise
The journey today promises to be a highlight of our program. We travel south along the Icefield Parkway to experience a wealth of breathtaking scenery. Crystal blue-green lakes, fresh mountain streams, deep forests and snow-capped mountain peaks are the
order of the day. Upon arrival at the Columbia Icefield, we will drive out onto the Athabasca Glacier, at an altitude of 2,700 meters, in an all-terrain Ice Explorer, a massive vehicle specially designed for glacier travel. The Snocoach will travel to a place where we can stop and take photos, walk on the ice and fill our water bottles with fresh glacial water (1.5-hour tour without skywalk). The Athabasca Glacier is one of the six principal glaciers fed by the Columbia Icefields. This once-in-a-lifetime experience is a must! We continue
on our journey to Lake Louise.

THU 2 October - DAY 6: Lake Louise
Today we enjoy the beauty of the scenery at Lake Louise. With the Victoria Glacier in the background, this emerald-coloured lake leaves a lingering impression. At 60C, the water is too cold for swimming, but you can opt to go canoeing, take a hike up to the Plain of Six Glaciers teahouse (6.5km) or admire the beauty from inside the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise hotel enjoying a high tea.
The red-roofed train station in Lake Louise Village was used in the film classic Dr Zhivago. Visit the village across the valley, take a chairlift up Whitehorn Mountain and have lunch at the restaurant.

FRI 3 October - DAY 7: Lake Louise - Banff
Late morning we leave Lake Louise to Banff. We enjoy a comprehensive tour of the Banff region, Canada’s first national park. Crystal blue-green lakes, fresh mountain streams, deep forests and snow-capped mountain peaks are the order of the day.
We visit the landmark Banff Springs Hotel, our home for the next two nights.

SAT 4 October - DAY 8: Banff
Day at leisure in Banff time to explore Canadian wilderness or relax in the fresh alpine air.

SUN 5 October - DAY 9: End of coach tour
Option A: Those finishing the tour today will be transferred to Calgary Airport for your onward flight.
Option B: Rocky Mountaineer Extension

SUN 5 October – DAY 9: Banff – Kamloops
Early this morning those travelling on the Rocky Mountaineer Rail Extension returning to Vancouver will be taken to the station to board the magnificent, purpose-built, luxury sightseeing train.
Upon arrival at the station, you will check in, board the train and start your rail journey of a lifetime. Today we head west towards the Pacific Coast. This unique daylight service allows us to view some of the most spectacular sights in Western Canada. Our route
departs the Rockies through Kicking Horse Pass, then climbs into the Selkirk Mountains following Rogers Pass. By late afternoon, we are in the arid ranch land of interior British Colombia where we disembark for the night in Kamloops.

MON 6 October – DAY 10: Kamloops - Vancouver
Early in the morning, your journey continues west towards the Pacific Ocean and the coastal city of Vancouver. On today’s journey, you will again see dramatic changes in scenery, from the desert-like environment of the BC Interior, through winding river
canyons and pristine forests, to the Cascade and Coast Mountains and the lush green fields of the Fraser Valley. Highlights include the steep slopes and rock sheds along the Thompson River and the rushing waters of Hell’s Gate in the Fraser Canyon. Your rail
