AMA submission to National Immunisation Strategy 2025-2030 – Public consultation

This submission provides advice in response to the CDC's consultation paper Towards a National Immunisation Strategy for 2025-30, which aims to increase immunisation rates and reduce vaccine-preventable diseases.

The post-COVID context has seen decreased vaccination rates and a degree of public distrust in vaccination programs.

Significantly, the paper proposes expanding a diverse immunisation workforce to meet population health demands.

The AMA maintains best practice is for vaccination to be provided by a medical practitioner or by a nurse working as part of a collaborative team.

General Practice remains the best context for vaccination alongside comprehensive patient care, particularly for children's optimal care.

Any increase to the immunisation workforce must be guided by strong regulation to ensure the highest standards of safety and service across healthcare settings.
