Ahpra annual renewals

Ahpra has provided AMA Queensland with an overview of its renewal campaign, including supports available for practitioners and stakeholders. Details are set out below.

Changes to renewal this year

Registration renewal looks different for practitioners this year. Before they renew, practitioners will need to log into the new Ahpra portal, where they will find their registration information including the renewal smart form. The new system has multifactor authentication to protect the highly sensitive information we hold, so practitioners need to link an authenticator app to their Ahpra portal. We recommend the free Google Authenticator app, but practitioners can also use other authenticator apps.

As you will be aware, we recently completed the renewal campaign for nurses and midwives in our new system. While we had 96.9% of nurses and midwives successfully apply for renewal (compared to 96.8% in our old system in the previous year), there were technical and service issues for practitioners. We are confident of a better experience for medical practitioners.

The key advantages of the medical renewal campaign are:

  • We have 40% of medical practitioners already set up with an Ahpra portal, prior to renewal opening (compared to 0% when the nursing and midwifery campaign opened)
  • We have kept our ‘surge’ customer service workforce from the nursing and midwifery campaign, so expect good service times for practitioners who need one on one support
  • We have a full campaign period (4 Aug to 30 Sept) as usual

Supports for practitioners and stakeholders

Over the past two weeks, we have briefed key stakeholders such as employers, government workforce representatives and professional bodies on the campaign, to ensure they can support practitioners with the changes. These key support networks can escalate any issues during the campaign.

For practitioners, we have refined the support offering during the previous renewal campaign, including:
