AMA pre-budget submission 2026–2027
Australia’s health system is one of the best in the world. In 2021, the highly regarded Commonwealth Fund rated Australia as having the third best health system when ranked among eleven similar high-income countries. In its report, Australia was placed number one on both healthcare outcomes and equity.
However, our system is struggling, with the cracks in the system widening. That strain is being felt by patients across the system.
Real reform is needed.
The AMA's 2026–2027 Prebudget Submission is a set of practical, costed, evidence-based proposals that recognise a simple truth. If we want a health system that works for patients, we must fund it to work.
