Get your additional Medicare provider number and prescriber number online
Some health professionals can apply online for their additional Medicare provider number and prescriber number.
Services Australia has shared the following information for AMA members.
From 29 September 2023, you can apply online for an additional Medicare provider number if you’re any of the following:
- an Ahpra-registered allied health professional with limited registration
- a nurse practitioner
- a midwife.
Services Australia staff will assess these applications, so the provider number won’t be available straight away.
You can apply in Health Professionals Online Services (HPOS) through your Provider Digital Access (PRODA) account.
If you’re a dentist, optometrist, nurse practitioner or midwife, you can also apply for a prescriber number online. You can only do this if you’re applying for an additional Medicare provider number at the same time.
If you’re only applying for a prescriber number, you need to use a form. Staff will assess those applications as well.
