Submission

AMA submission to the Senate Finance and Public Administration Reference Committee's Inquiry into Lessons to be learned in relation to the Australian bushfire season 2019-20

The 2019-2020 bushfire season in Australia was catastrophic from both an environmental and a public health perspective. The AMA's submission responds specifically to Terms of Reference d), g) and h) of the Inquiry. It outlines the health effects of the bushfire season in terms of mortality, smoke exposure, and mental ill-health, and recommends more action to combat climate change, the formation of a National Centre for Disease Control, and the inclusion of GPs in disaster planning.
