AMA Submission on the early release of superannuation to cover the cost of medical services

The AMA submission to the review of early release of superannuation advocates that the rules regulating superannuation should ensure that funds are preserved for the intended purpose of reducing the welfare burden of an increasingly ageing population; they should not be used to subsidise inadequate health care funding.

The AMA does not oppose early release of superannuation on compassionate and medical grounds, however it is not the role of the medical practitioner to make decisions about whether early access to superannuation is justified.
