Guide to mitigate our impact on the climate and carbon emissions
AMA Queensland recognises climate change is a global health emergency. Our Advocacy Priorities call for urgent government action to increase sustainable practice in health care and the broader community, including waste and carbon emission reductions in our hospitals and health services.

To improve sustainable practices within our own organisation, the AMA Queensland Council approved the Sustainable Events Guide in November 2024. The guide, developed by the AMA Queensland Climate and Sustainability Working Group, proposes a range of interventions to mitigate the impact of AMA Queensland’s activities on the climate and carbon emissions.
A key focus are those activities that typically contribute the most carbon emissions for associations like AMA Queensland and are most readily adapted or reduced with modest financial impact. These include travel for events, food and paper waste, energy use and consumption of single use items.
We are committed to steadily implementing the measures in the guide and encourage others to use it to help guide their own efforts towards a sustainable and healthy future.
