Breast medicine recognised

ASMOFQ and AMA Queensland would like to thank those involved in making Breast Medicine a Queensland Health-recognised specialty.

The move was met with commendations from the Australasian Society of Breast Physicians, HHSs and Breast Physicians.

Correspondence from Michael Walsh, Director-General explains:
The recognition of the medical discipline of Breast Medicine has been approved. Approval was granted in terms of the definition of the discipline, the body of knowledge and skills which constitutes the discipline, the recognised qualifications required for credentialed scope of practice in the discipline and the eligible salary range for Senior Medical Officers (SMO) with credentialed scope of practice in Breast Medicine.

ASMOFQ’s advocacy on the State Recognised Practice Committee's brought to fruition the  recommendation regarding Breast Medicine.

Breast Medicine SMOs who meet the qualifications are eligible to be paid on the advanced credentialed pay scale. Breast Medicine being listed as a Qld Health specialty means that Breast Medicine SMOs will be able to progress their careers via salary progression pathways within the public sector.
