Opposition frontbench welcome
With the new government ministry and opposition frontbench announced, AMA Queensland will be holding both sides to their election commitments.
AMA Queensland welcomes the appointment of Mark Bailey as Shadow Health Minister in the new opposition frontbench.
“We thank Shannon Fentiman for her work as Health Minister in the previous government and congratulate her on her move to the Treasury portfolio in opposition,” AMA Queensland President Dr Nick Yim said.
“We look forward to building on the strong working relationship we had with Ms Fentiman as we work with Mr Bailey.
“This is an important time for Queensland’s health system. We will hold the LNP government to their election commitments, including their pledge in opposition to implement Labor’s 2024-25 state budget in full.
“That budget included record investment in health and the healthcare workforce, incentives to recruit and retain doctors and nurses in regional areas and assistance for GP trainees.
“We also expect the Labor opposition to support legislation to exempt general practice from payroll tax, and we will continue to advocate for this exemption to be extended to all private medical practices.
“We also wish the outgoing Chief Health Officer Dr John Gerrard well as he moves back to clinical practice, and look forward to working with the next CHO.”
