Foundational training modules on coercive control and legislative change

The Department of Justice and Attorney-General has released two foundational online training modules developed to support the commencement of the new coercive control legislation starting on 26 May 2025.

The foundational online training modules are available state-wide to government agencies, non-government organisations and community groups. Given the broad audience, the information is of a foundational level and easily accessible. The modules align with the Domestic and family violence training and change management framework released in April 2024.

  • Module 1 focuses on the nature and types of behaviours that indicate coercive control, how to identify patterns of coercive controlling behaviours and the impacts on victim-survivors.
  • Module 2 focuses on the upcoming changes to the legislation, an overview of the criminal justice system in Queensland, the support and justice options available to victim-survivors, and the potential consequences for persons using violence.

The modules are available on the Queensland Centre for Domestic and Family Violence Research (QCDFVR) website and can be accessed here.

Additionally, the modules are available through the DJAG Need to Know to enable learners who do not wish to provide their email through QCDFVR to access the modules anonymously.
