Dr Maria Boulton
President of AMA Queensland
Dr Maria Boulton is an industry leader, GP specialist, business owner, media commentator and public speaker. With two decades’ experience in private practice and hospitals in Brisbane and regional Queensland, she drives state and national medical policy as President of AMA Queensland. Dr Boulton’s experiences growing up in El Salvador underpin her reputation as a compassionate advocate for doctors and patients. Immigrating to Australia in 1990, Dr Boulton completed her medical degree at The University of Queensland in 2002. She is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and a graduate and member of Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Dr Elise Witter
Chair of AMA Queensland Committee of Doctors in Training
Dr Elise Witter has worked and studied in a variety of regional, rural and remote settings, including with the Royal Flying Doctors' Service in Lockhart River. Currently working in mental health at Cairns Hospital, she has a passion for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, promoting doctor-in-training wellbeing and ensuring equity in educational and vocational opportunities for the rural and remote medical workforce. She has an extensive background in advocacy, which she hopes to harness to improve the experience of doctors training in rural and remote Australia.

Dr Danielle McMullen
Vice President of the Australian Medical Association
Dr Danielle McMullen is the AMA Vice President, a director of Drs4Drs and a GP specialist. She has demonstrated skills in leadership and effectively engaging decision-makers to deliver strategic policy objectives. She has also shown herself to be a trusted voice of general practice in the media. Clinically, Danielle has an interest in women’s health, family planning, mental health and doctors’ health. She brings that lens of caring for people across their lifespan to her advocacy work. She has been a valued participant in recent projects including TGA opioid reforms, COVID-19 management in NSW and the Strengthening Medicare Taskforce.

Dr Helen Fraser

Dr Helen Fraser is a passionate Rural Generalist who grew up in South West Victoria and moved to North Queensland to attend JCU for medical school. She has a keen interest in leadership by clinicians for clinicians, particularly encouraging women in medicine and providing a role model for junior doctors. She can relate to the feeling of imposter syndrome even when we are the most qualified person in the room. Outside of medicine, Helen enjoys triathlon, currently focussing on running as juggling a young family with work and life.

Dr Janani Krishnan
Consultant Paediatric Surgeon and Urologist, Townsville university Hospital, Senior Clinical Lecturer James Cook University
Dr Janani Krishnan is an Australian qualified Paediatric Surgeon who completed her paediatric surgery training in a high-volume, tertiary care children’s hospital in Mumbai, receiving the Gold Medal in Paediatric Surgery by the Vice President of India on completion. In pursuit of further international experience and focused specialty training in paediatric urology, Janani and her husband relocated to Australia. As a Fellowship of Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, Janani moved to beautiful North Queensland as a Consultant Paediatric Surgeon with Townsville University Hospital. Janani has specific interest in education and training. She believes that surgical training can be made less taxing and more supportive for trainees to achieve their goals. She’s passionate about improving work culture to create safe environments for learning, and delivering the best possible quality of care to her patients.

Dr Susannah Bond
Townsville University Hospital
Dr Susannah Bond is a Psychiatrist and Director of Clinical Training at Townsville University Hospital, having moved to Townsville with her young family from the UK six years ago. Susannah is a member of the Binational Women in Psychiatry group, the THHS gender diversity in medical leadership working group and the Australian Federation of Medical Women. She also sits on the AMA Queensland International Medical Graduate working group - a proud advocate for both women and IMG colleagues whose contributions to medicine and support needs are often overlooked.

Georgina Whelan
GAICD, MBA, BN, RN
Georgina Whelan is a strong advocate for equitable access to care for regional, rural, and remote patients. She is Site Manager at Townsville’s Icon Cancer Centre. Georgina is a Registered Nurse with 30 years’ experience across public, private, metropolitan and regional settings. In 2003, she moved to Townsville to pursue a variety of clinical and management roles in the Townsville Cancer Centre. She moved into a full-time management role when Icon opened its doors in 2013 and has since completed her Master of Business Administration. Georgina commissioned a second cancer day hospital in Mackay in January 2018. In 2020 she joined Townsville Hospital and Health Service Board. Georgina was recognised in 2021 as Townsville’s Corporate Businesswoman of the Year.
