Federal AMA President Dr Danielle McMullen will address the National Press Club of Australia on “Underpinning Australia’s healthcare system: strengthening the base, not the facade”.
The speech will explore the paradox of having one of the best healthcare systems in the world, while facing daily headlines about a system in crisis. Rates of chronic disease continue to increase; access to healthcare remains difficult for many if not impossible; the private healthcare system is heading towards an existential crisis and ambulance ramping and long waits for surgeries are highlighted almost daily in media headlines.
Dr McMullen will address issues relating to scope of practice and why quick and politically expedient fixes aren't the answer.
