Sydney doctor receives top award for excellence in healthcare

A Western Sydney doctor, whose innovation has been used by multiple providers to monitor patients remotely during the pandemic, has been awarded the 2022 AMA Excellence in Healthcare award.

Dr Kean-Seng Lim

Dr Kean-Seng Lim received the award from outgoing AMA President Dr Omar Khorshid on day one of the 2022 AMA National Conference.

Dr Khorshid said he was delighted to present the award to Dr Lim for his passion in embracing innovation in healthcare.

"Dr Lim's commitment to improving healthcare through the use of technology has the power to revolutionise the delivery of patient care in Australia," he said.

Dr Lim has worked as a GP at Mt Druitt Medical Centre for the past 26 years and served as AMA NSW President from 2018 to 2020.

He is also co-founder and clinical lead of CareMonitor, a shared care, real-time remote monitoring and population health management platform with telehealth capability. The platform has been used during the pandemic by several institutions to monitor patients.

His practice was also one of three general practices engaged by WestWest and the Children’s Hospital at Westmead to participate in the COVID Kids program during the Delta outbreak in NSW in 2021.

"The joint program supported children who contracted COVID-19, by virtually monitoring their condition during their recovery,” Dr Khorshid said.

“The partnership between the hospital and the practice allowed care to be applied safely and in a coordinated way at a time when rapid transmission of the Delta strain was overwhelming the public hospital’s capacity to care for patients diagnosed with COVID," Dr Khorshid said.

Dr Khorshid congratulated Dr Lim on his award, which was created to recognise the contributions of an AMA member who has made an outstanding contribution to leadership and advocacy in the delivery of high standard health care.
