MEDIA ALERT - DOORSTOP

PUBLIC HOSPITALS UNDER PRESSURE AND STRUGGLING TO MEET TARGETS

Launch of AMA Public Hospital Report Card 2014

AMA President, Dr Steve Hambleton, will tomorrow release the AMA Public Hospital Report Card 2014, an AMA analysis of the performance of Australia’s public hospitals.

The Report Card examines public hospital capacity; emergency department waiting and treatment times; and elective surgery waiting and treatment times.

For the first time, the AMA Report Card uses information about Commonwealth funding published by the National Health Funding Pool Administrator.

The AMA Public Hospital Report Card uses the most recent data published by the Commonwealth Government, and is the only document that provides consistent analysis of public hospital activity over time. It also provides a State-by-State snapshot of performance.

Dr Hambleton will release the Report Card at a media doorstop in Brisbane tomorrow morning at 11.00am (Brisbane time).

**Dr Hambleton will also be commenting on the current dispute over Queensland Government individual contracts for Senior Medical Officers (SMOs).
