AMA Summit on Child Abuse - 'Working together: toward a national policy for child protection and recovery', Canberra

AMA President, Dr Bill Glasson, will open the AMA Summit on Child Abuse, which will address the increasing incidence of child abuse in Australia.  Chair of AMA's Child and Youth Health Committee, Dr Michael Rice, will chair the summit.

Dr Glasson said: "There is currently no single system of protection from child abuse in Australia.

"There is no consistent approach between the many disciplines involved with child abuse victims and survivors.

"Today marks the commitment to a unified response to this serious issue."

Presenters at the summit include:  Dr Louise Newman, President, NSW Institute of Psychiatry; Professor Graham Vimpani, Chair, National Investment for the Early Years; Associate Professor Dorothy Scott, School of Social Work, University of Melbourne; Ms Muriel Cadd AM, National Chairperson, Secretariat of National Aboriginal and Islander Child Care; Ms Sandie de Wolf, Chair, Families Australia; Dr Terry Donald, Head of Child Protection, Women's and Children's Hospital, Adelaide;
