AMA members recognised in King’s Birthday Honours List

AMA members have been recognised in today’s King’s Birthday Honours List in medical fields including general practice, medicine, anaesthetics, dermatology, paediatrics, women’s health, infectious diseases, and surgery. 

AMA President Dr Danielle McMullen congratulated the members on the significant recognition of their contribution to the health of communities across Australia. 

“All of the doctors in today’s Honours List have shown great dedication to using their skills and experience to benefit patients, colleagues, and society as a whole.” Dr McMullen said. 

“We are pleased to see our members’ commitment to serving their communities recognised and while that isn’t why they do it, it is gratifying to know the value that doctors deliver every day is acknowledged in such a positive fashion.”

Professor Timothy Davis (WA): For distinguished service to medicine as a consultant physician, to clinical research into diabetes and infectious diseases, and to tertiary education. 

Professor Elizabeth Elliott (NSW): For distinguished service to paediatric medicine, to women's health, and to medical and social understanding of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder. 

Professor Raymond Sacks (NSW): For distinguished service to otolaryngology, to clinical training, to tertiary education, and to governance roles. 

Member of the Order of Australia (AM) 

Dr Tanja Bohl (Vic): For significant service to dermatology as a clinician, and to women's health. 

Associate Professor Miron Goldwasser (Vic): For significant service to orthopaedic surgery, and to clinical education and training. 

Associate Professor Anne Howard (Vic): For significant service to dermatology as a clinician, teacher, examiner and mentor. 

Dr David Joske (WA): For significant service to haematology, and to pioneering the use of integrative oncology. 

Dr Andrew Mulcahy (Tas), an AMA Fellow and former member of the AMA Federal Council: For significant service to medical administration, and to anaesthetics. 

Associate Professor David Nottle (Vic): For significant service to laparoscopic and gastrointestinal surgery, to clinical leadership, and to education. 

Professor Michael Solomon (NSW): For significant service to gastrointestinal surgery, to surgical outcomes research, and to the community. 

Associate Professor Michael Steyn (Qld): For significant service to anaesthesiology and peri-operative medicine, and to health leadership.
