New Independent Medical Examination provider arrangements for veterans’ compensation claims

The Department of Veterans’ Affairs recently advised the AMA that Independent Medical Examinations (IMEs) to support assessments of veterans’ compensation claims will now be provided by MedHealth as the sole provider.

The DVA commissions IMEs by non-treating doctors on an ‘as needed’ basis when medical evidence isn’t available from existing DVA held files, Defence service records, or treating practitioners.

Provisions will be put in place for DVA clients already undertaking an IME by another provider to ensure continuity of service for those clients.

Any queries regarding DVA’s changed arrangements for sourcing IMEs can be emailed to MIGS.CONTRACT@dva.gov.au.
