AMA (NSW)’s Doctors-In-Training Committee met on Thursday 31 March 2022 and was joined by many new faces, as well as our new 2022 Hospital Representatives. Some of the highlights from the meeting were:

Presentation with guest speaker Dr Hash Abdeen

Dr Hash Adbeen, Chair of Federal AMA Council of Doctors-in-Training, provided an update on the Committees’ initiatives for 2022, including the AMACDT 2022 strategic advocacy plan which focuses on progression through training, unaccredited registrars and prevocational advocacy, DIT wellbeing, and more.

Presentation with guest speaker Dr Daniel Nour

Dr Daniel Nour, spoke to the DITC about his charitable organisation, Street Side Medics. Street Side Medics’ second van hit the streets this month and has travelled to flood affected Lismore, where the team have been graciously providing mobilised medical support to those who have lost access to healthcare.

JMO-Patient ratios

AMA (NSW) DITC has compiled research into potential optimal JMO-Patient ratios. Despite there being little quantitative data in the field – the Royal Australian College of Physicians (RACP) has reported that patient ratios is to be dealt with by hospitals on a local level. The DITC will be looking into this more.

Doctors running group

The DITC was joined by Dr Aran Sandrasegaran, who has started a doctor’s running group and has encouraged other DITs to get involved. Dr Sandrasegaran stated that running groups are a great use of socialisation and a good method to stay fit and healthy. It’s important as we ease into COVID-normal we start to look after our wellbeing more with doing these activities.
