Updates from AMA NSW DiT Committee Meeting
The AMA (NSW) 2021 Hospital Health Check and workforce concerns were among key issues discussed at the AMA (NSW) Doctors-In-Training Committee on Thursday 18 November 2021.
The meeting was held in person and via Zoom – it was great to be able to gather in person again. Here are the highlights from the meeting:
AMA (NSW) 2021 Hospital Health Check
The DITC Co-Chairs led a discussion regarding the AMA (NSW) Hospital Health Check Results. The DITC congratulates Hornsby Hospital for its ‘A’ grading, with honourable mentions also to Wagga Wagga and Belmont. The DITC and AMA (NSW) will work together with Concord Hospital to address concerns raised by DITs with their results.
GP Training
Ms Georgina van de Water, CEO of GP Synergy, spoke to the DITC regarding upcoming changes to GP Training in 2023. GP Training will be transitioning to a college-led training program.
Workforce concerns
The DITC Co-Chairs met with representatives from the Ministry of Health regarding concerns expressed by members of the DITC at the October meeting including resignations and a lack of cover for those positions. The Ministry has sought feedback about the hospitals where end of year resignations is a particular problem.
Overnight calls when on-call
Feedback from hospital representatives and DITC members following the last meeting has demonstrated that experiences vary across hospitals and within hospitals across departments, and members of the DITC have been asked to record the details of calls to better inform advocacy on this issue, and to develop education for interns and residents.
Next meeting
The AMA (NSW) DITC Co-Chairs wish everyone a safe and happy festive season. The first meeting for 2022 will be held on 17 February 2022.
