Equity, inclusion and diversity plan updated by the AMA

The AMA is committed to promoting equity, inclusion and diversity in the medical profession and to working collaboratively with our members and other organisations.

The AMA Equity, Inclusion and Diversity Plan 2023–2025 is one of the specific commitments made by the AMA to advance equity, inclusion and diversity (EID) both in the AMA and externally. It provides the AMA with a platform to connect the range of work done across the organisation, build on work underway, and identify further opportunities to advance EID in the AMA and healthcare environment more broadly. This is the second plan developed by the AMA with the AMA achieving of 78 per cent of the actions outlined the AMA Diversity and Inclusion Plan 2020-2022.

Key focus areas of the plan are:

  1. Work participation

Advocate for pathways to support work participation and career progression for international medical graduates, doctors with disability, and doctors returning to work after a prolonged absence.

  1. Cultural safety

Collaborate to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander doctors and doctors from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds to work and train in culturally safe environments, free from racism.

  1. Equity and inclusion

Support equity and diversity in our representative structures across the AMA and create a culture where members feel they belong.
