Framework for GPs to no longer isolate after COVID-19 exposure released

The Commonwealth has released the Worker Permissions and Restrictions Framework for Workers in Health Care Settings.

The framework was endorsed by the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC) who received advice from the Communicable Diseases Network Australia (CDNA) and the Infection Control Expert Group (ICEG) in developing the framework.

Under the framework, GPs and practice staff who are wearing appropriate PPE and are fully vaccinated would not have to isolate after an exposure event.

The nationally agreed recommendations are intended to support safe decision making when determining appropriate workplace restrictions and permissions for a worker exposed to COVID-19.

The framework must still be adopted by each State and Territory.

The AMA has strongly advocated for sensible, nationally consistent guidance on this issue over the past months.
