New amendment determination enables additional allied health services in aged care

The Health Insurance (Section 3C General Medical – Expansion of GP and Allied Health Chronic Disease Management Services for Care Recipients of a Residential Aged Care Facility) Amendment Determination 2021 came into effect on 14 September.

The Determination amends six temporary allied health service items for people living in residential aged care facilities.  

It allows for additional exercise physiology, occupational therapy and physiotherapy services provided to residents, if the residents are managed under multidisciplinary care plans, shared care plans or GP Management Plans and Team Care Arrangements. Under the same amendment, additional services will be enabled for residents of aged care facilities who are of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent.
