AskMBS - Updated Existing Relationship Exemptions Advisory

The document has been updated with the latest information and exemptions on the 1 July changes to the existing relationship requirements for GP’s and other medical practitioners working in general practice.

The AMA continues to work with the Government on permanent telehealth arrangements. AMA advocacy resulted in a Level C equivalent for telephone consults being reintroduced during COVID-19 outbreaks.

The AMA has been assured again by Minister for Health Greg Hunt that telehealth will be permanent and that telephone delivery will be included. The AMA position is still not supportive of a differentiation in MBS rebates for video and telephone consultations. The time spent in, and content of, a consultation should be remunerated the same regardless of the modality utilised.
