National Safety and Quality Primary Healthcare Standards not for General Practice

The AMA has provided a submission to the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care (ACSQHC) on its draft National Safety and Quality Primary Healthcare (NSQPH) Standards.

The AMA advised the Commission that it needed to make it clear that these Standards are not intended to encompass general practice, with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners Standards for General Practice already in place.

While strongly objecting to any role for these standards in general practice, AMA is generally satisfied that these draft NSQPH Standards provide a realistic framework in which to assist primary healthcare services, such as independent allied health providers, to minimise the risk of harm and to improve care for patients.
