Updates from NPS MedicineWise

Two recent articles from NPS MedicineWise are of direct relevance to GPs, covering the topics of cervical screening tests and suicide prevention, detection and intervention.

A series of six modules are available for GPs who conduct cervical screening tests. These modules are recognised for the Practice Incentives Program Quality Prescribing Incentive. The modules update health professionals on the changes to the National Cervical Screening Program and can be found here

Research shows that the education of primary care clinicians is one of the strongest strategies for suicide prevention. GPs are well placed to engage with patients who may be considering suicide – many patients who attempt suicide visit their GP in the preceding months. This article in NPS provides questions that GPs can ask to assess a patient’s suicidality and also provides strategies for prevention, detection and intervention.
