OAIC webinar on creating a privacy policy for your practice

GPs may be interested in a free webinar the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) is running on how to create a privacy policy for your practice.

Being open and transparent with patients about how their personal information is handled by your practice is one of the best ways to build trust and confidence. It is also a requirement of the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). A privacy policy is a key business tool to let your patients know about your clinic’s information handling practices.

The webinar will give you guidance and tips about how to create a privacy policy for your practice that:

  • meets your obligations under the amended Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), which came into force on 12 March 2014;
  • provides patients with the information they need about the way your practice handles their personal information; and
  • draws on the lessons learnt from the OAIC’s current assessment of 40 randomly selected GP practices across Australia.
