New GP Training Arrangements Announced
The Government recently announced appointments to the new, profession-led GP Training Advisory Committee that will oversee governance of the Australian General Practice Training (AGPT) programme, as well as the names of the GP training providers for nine of the eleven new geographic training regions.
Professor Stephen Trumble has been appointed independent chair of the Advisory Committee, which will include representatives from the Registrar and GP Supervisor associations, independent clinicians, and an independent Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander GP. The Committee will be jointly managed by the RACGP and ACRRM. More information about the Committee is available here.
The Department of Health has reached in-principle agreement with nine of the eleven new training providers to assume responsibility for the management of the AGPT programme from 1 January 2016. Work will commence on transitioning to the new providers over the next three months. This includes new providers implementing comprehensive transition and stakeholder engagement plans. More information is available on the Department of Health website.
