MERS-CoV – situation update

The Department of Health (DoH) has issued the latest situation update for the MERS Coronavirus. As of 26 March 2014, the WHO had received reports of 206 laboratory-confirmed cases of MERS-CoV, including 86 deaths. Most confirmed cases have been in residents of Saudi Arabia or in people who have travelled there or their contacts (171 cases). The case fatality rate is 42% and at least 56% of confirmed cases had underlying conditions that may have made them more susceptible. There are media reports of a suspected case in Yemen but this case has not been reported by the WHO as confirmed.
