AMA National Conference 2015: Medicare – midlife crisis?

30 Apr 2015

The AMA National Conference, to be held in Brisbane on 29-31 May, provides a platform for Australia’s leading doctors to share their ideas on the way ahead for Australia’s health system. Australia needs vision and leadership on public hospital funding, medical workforce, mental health, Indigenous health, aged care, end of life care, and a whole range of public health concerns, including alcohol abuse, obesity, exercise, and illicit drugs.

Our policy sessions at Conference this year will explore the core areas and ideals that underpin the medical profession and the health system. These include:

  • Funding quality general practice – is it time for change?
  • Quality public hospital services: funding capacity for performance
  • Stewardship and the Doctor’s Role
  • General Practice Training – Reclaiming Our Future
  • Key AMA Public Health advocacy - local and global

GP’s are encouraged to attend National Conference and to participate in the general practice policy session. This session will be highly relevant in the context of the Government’s Primary Health Care Advisory Group.

CPD points will be available for attendance at Conference. Find out more.

We are honoured to have former Prime Minister, the Hon Julia Gillard, as Guest Speaker for the Leadership Development Dinner. There will also be major award presentations including the Dirty Ashtray Award, the Indigenous People’s Medical Scholarship, MJA/MDA Excellence in Medical Research Award, and the AMA Gold Medal. The social side is catered for with the President’s Welcome Reception and the Gala Dinner.

Our Conference is not just for Elected Officers and delegates. They take care of the business and governance side of things, but we need more voices to inform the policy debate and steer a course for the AMA. Our members are our strength. Help the AMA continue as the peak health organisation in the country. Register to attend the AMA National Conference at the Hilton Hotel, Brisbane, 29-31 May 2015.
