AMA Council of General Practice tackles aged care access

The AMA Council of General Practice (AMACGP) met in Canberra over the last weekend to discuss a range of pertinent issues for GPs, including GP funding arrangements, after-hours, the proposed Quality PIP, mental health services and outcome measure in general practice. A significant part of the weekend focused on GP services in aged care facilities and the strong feedback from members that current funding arrangements are inadequate.

AMACGP agreed that this was something that the MBS Review Primary Care Committee needed to look at as a matter of urgency, including how the current items could be improved. At the time of writing, the AMA was preparing a submission to give effect to this call.
