Following thirteen Expressions of Interest to fill the casual vacancy of GP representative on the AMA Federal Council, Dr Richard Kidd, has been successful, and was announced this week as the new Chair of the AMA Council of General Practice. Dr Kidd has been the Deputy Chair on Council since mid 2013, is a past President of AMA Queensland, and holds a number of other positions in both Federal AMA and AMA Queensland.

Last weekend the AMA Council of General Practice held its June Council meeting. The Council considered the AMA’s position on a number of significant GP issues including the health care home, MBS indexation freeze, red tape and compliance issues, the progress of Primary Health Networks and PIP eHealth requirements.
