Let’s talk about AMA Policy!

CPAC – the AMACDT Policy Advisory Committee – is a new group that formed in late 2020. We’re a group of about 15 Doctors-in-Training, with an interest in policy and advocacy.

Policy is an essential driver of the AMA mandate, and all our current policies/position statements are on the AMA federal website. The AMA is strong because of robust and collaborative opinions from members. Of course, Doctors-in-Training have a stake in many of the AMA positions, and that’s where this committee comes in.

Between policies that are becoming outdated, new issues becoming big parts of AMA advocacy, and as our positions on issues change, we seek to wordsmith the policies into a consistent base (both grammatical AND logical).

Now that we’re up and running, we assist the CDT and its other Special Interest Groups in policy-making. We’ve devised a “guide to policy” document for the SIGs, and are continuing to streamline the whole policy process before it gets to Federal Council.

AMA works for members! If you have suggestions for policy or a specific issue that you think needs our eyes in 2022 let us know! We’re also going to be putting out callouts for a couple new spots on our committee in the coming months.
