Medical Workforce Reform Advisory Committee (MWRAC) update

AMA Council of Doctors in Training (AMACDT) Chair Dr Hash Abdeen (below left), and Australian Medical Students' Association (AMSA) President Sophie Keen (below right) met with Prof Brendan Murphy (below centre) as part of the Medical Workforce Reform Advisory Committee (MWRAC) to discuss the Trainee and Medical Student perspective on key workforce issues addressed in upcoming National Medical Workforce Strategy (NMWS).

Discussions covered the over and under supply of certain specialties and subspecialties, the geographic maldistribution of the medical workforce and rural training issues, better support for the unaccredited registrar space, and the need for robust data to support the alignment of training pipeline numbers along the career trajectory of medical student to prevocational, vocational, and consultant jobs to meet community needs. We are excited to continue working together to best represent the voice of all DiTs and medical students across the country on these important topics.

You can read the AMAs most recent submission to the NMWS here. Note that as the Draft Strategy is not yet public, only a summary of the AMA's submission is currently available.
