Position statement on medical care for people in residential aged care homes
Australians living in residential aged care homes (RACHs) deserve access to high-quality, coordinated medical care that reflects their individual needs, goals, and preferences. General practitioners (GPs) play a central role in delivering this care, yet systemic barriers continue to limit their ability to provide consistent, comprehensive services.
Significant reform and funding is urgently needed to put an end to Australians living in residential aged care being unable to access timely and coordinated healthcare.
The Australian Medical Association warns that residential aged care residents are unable to access regular GP care because of systematic failings in the aged care system.
