The Australian Medical Association recognises the inextricable link between humans, animals, and environmental health, conceptually coined One Health. Indigenous cultures including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders have known, valued and practiced the important connection to the environment and all living things for millennia and have and will continue to play a central role in developing One Health policies. One Health is complex and is relies on a coordinated all of government approach. A One Health approach should be applied at all policy levels (including local, regional, federal, and global) in all disciplines to avoid jurisdictions working in silos. Factors that influence food and water security such as biodiversity, environmental sustainability, poverty, and climate change, must be considered under a One Health approach.
