MBS Review Advisory Committee Review — Inclusion of audiometrists under the MBS to provide limited audiology services

The AMA supports MRAC’s draft recommendation not to expand audiometrist access to diagnostic audiology MBS items in scope. We are pleased this decision aligns with our previous feedback — namely that autonomous scope expansion without demonstrated equivalence, robust governance, and integrated care pathways risks patient safety, continuity, and equity.

The AMA does not support autonomous expansion of scope for non-medical professionals where it risks fragmentation, undermines safety, or is not supported by evidence.
