Department of Health review of the MBS Heart Health Assessment Items

The AMA has advised the Department of Health not to be make permanent the ill-designed MBS Heart Health Assessment items.

The AMA has advocated for a more holistic approach to health care then MBS items that are disease specific. Calling instead for funding from these items to be redirected to longer consultation items that will support GPs to spend the time required with patients for holistic and comprehensive care.

The interim Heart Health Assessment Items 699 & 177 were introduced to the MBS on 1 April 2019, and are due to expire on 30 June 2021.
