AMA submission on Recency of Practice Registration Standard review public consultation

The AMA recognises that our healthcare system is under increasing pressure due to rapidly growing demand and workforce shortages. While the recency of practice registration standard is an important instrument in regulating the healthcare workforce, it needs to adapt to evolving needs. It should minimise the regulatory burden on current, returning, and overseas-trained practitioners to ease workforce supply pressures, while still ensuring that the public receives effective, high-quality and culturally sensitive care and that public confidence is maintained.
