AMA Submission on Proposed amendments to the Poisons Standard in relation to paracetamol

The AMA provided a submission to the TGA consultation on the amendments to the poisons standards in relation to paracetamol.

The AMA submission stresses the AMA support for limiting the harm from medicines misuse, but also notes that finding the right balance between limiting harm from overdose and guaranteeing access for people who need paracetamol will be challenging. Paracetamol provides an important therapeutic purpose in Australia, and it is therefore important that the risk of it is not overstated, undermining the consumer confidence in its safety.
