AMA submission to the Medical Services Advisory Committee Chronic Pain MedsCheck Trial

The AMA opposes the application to the Medical Services Advisory Committee (MSAC) for the Chronic Pain MedsCheck Trial.

The trial and evaluation were poorly designed and provide no clear evidence of efficacy.

Chronic pain is a major health issue for Australians. Overreliance on pain medicines, including opioids, as a treatment for chronic pain is also a major issue which needs funding and planning to address. Unfortunately this application promotes a model that would undermine and fragment existing care while diverting funding away from programs that could actually help people seeking to reduce reliance on pain medicines.
