AMA submission to the Inquiry into the Migration Amendment (Health Care for Asylum Seekers) Bill 2012

The AMA believes that people seeking asylum in Australia should have an appropriate level of health care, in whatever detention arrangements they are placed. The AMA also believes that, to enable this, it is important for the Department of Immigration and Citizenship to be open and transparent in allowing impartial professional scrutiny of the health services and response it provides. This can be achieved through the establishment of an Independent Health Panel for Asylum Seekers. This AMA submission to the Senate Legal and Constitutional Affairs Committee Inquiry into the Migration Amendment (Health Care for Asylum Seekers) Bill 2012 makes the case for such an independent panel.
